Transient versus persistent improved ejection fraction in non-ischaemic dilated cardiomyopathy

Paolo Manca et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the trajectories of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in non-ischaemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NICM) with improved ejection fraction (impEF) and their correlation with outcomes. The results showed that approximately 40% of impEF patients had recurrent decline in LVEF, which was associated with an increased risk of adverse cardiac outcomes.

Atrial fibrillation in dilated cardiomyopathy: Outcome prediction from an observational registry

Vincenzo Nuzzi et al.

Summary: In patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, permanent atrial fibrillation (permAF) is associated with older age, more severe NYHA class, and larger left atrium diameter compared to sinus rhythm (SR) patients. Patients with paroxysmal/persistent AF have characteristics between permAF and SR. Developing permAF during long-term follow-up is associated with a higher rate of adverse outcome events compared to patients without permAF.

Epidemiology of Heart Failure A Contemporary Perspective

Veronique L. Roger

Summary: This review summarizes recent studies on the epidemiology of heart failure (HF) over the past decade, indicating that while the incidence of HF is mostly flat or declining, the burden of mortality and hospitalization remains significant, especially with major disparities among younger Black men and women. Emerging risk factors and holistic management approaches may help improve the treatment and management of HF.
