From aniline to phenol: carbon-nitrogen bond activation via uranyl photoredox catalysis

Deqing Hu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the efficient conversion of various anilines to phenols through uranyl photoredox catalysis with water. The protonated anilines undergo a single-electron transfer process with the uranyl catalyst, facilitating the oxygen atom transfer between the radical cation of protonated anilines and uranyl peroxide. Oxygen is sourced from water, while the amino groups are transformed into ammonium salts. The flow operation shows 100-fold efficiency, indicating the potential for industrial synthetic applications.

Lithium Dicyclohexylamide in Transition-Metal-Free Fischer-Tropsch Chemistry

Maotong Xu et al.

Summary: The reaction of lithium dicyclohexylamide with syn-gas or CO generates transient intermediates with carbene character, capable of further reacting with CO or H-2 to promote C-C and C-H bond formations, providing a transition-metal-free route for fundamental Fischer-Tropsch process reactions. Experimental and computational data suggest that reactions with CO and H-2 are thermodynamically feasible, with a kinetic preference for CO homologation.

Dinitrogen complexation and reduction at low-valent calcium

B. Roesch et al.

Summary: The attempted preparation of low-valent Ca-I complexes in the form of LCa-CaL under dinitrogen atmosphere led to the isolation of LCa(N-2)CaL, which acts as a synthon for the target LCa-CaL.The N-2(2-) anion in this complex reacted as a potent two-electron donor and could be protonated to diazene. The role of Ca d orbitals in N-2 activation is also discussed.
