Matrix Product States with Large Sites

Henrik R. Larsson et al.

Summary: In this article, we explore different methods of grouping orbitals into clusters in a matrix product state (MPS). We propose a special cluster structure that can increase computational efficiency. By implementing various multi-reference theories using an MPS with large cluster sites, we demonstrate the flexibility and usefulness of this approach. Applications to specific molecules further illustrate its utility and effectiveness.

Interpretation of Exchange Interaction through Orbital Entanglement

Jakub Chalupsky et al.

Summary: The analysis of entropy and mutual information may lead to incorrect interpretations of the J-coupling mechanism when investigating exchange interactions between open-shell metal ions. Instead, a new orbital-entanglement analysis based on two-electron density provides a coherent picture of exchange pathways that correlates well with experimental J values. This study highlights the importance of considering spin entanglement in understanding the complexity of wave functions and electron density, particularly in the context of exchange interactions in metal complexes.

Low communication high performance ab initio density matrix renormalization group algorithms

Huanchen Zhai et al.

Summary: Recent interest in deploying ab initio density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) computations on high performance computing platforms has led to a reformulation of the conventional distributed memory ab initio DMRG algorithm. Various parallelism strategies are explored to reduce processor load imbalance and communication cost for achieving higher efficiencies. The performance of the new open-source implementation is demonstrated with benchmark calculations on benzene and FeMo cofactor models, showing nearly ideal parallel scaling from 448 to 2800 CPU cores.
