KOtBu-Catalyzed 1,2-Silaboration of N-Heteroarenes to Access 2-Silyiheterocycles: A Cooperative Model for the Regioselectivity

Eunchan Jeong et al.

Summary: Reductive functionalization of N-heteroarenes is an important method for the synthesis of versatile heterocyclic compounds. In this study, the KOtBu-catalyzed 1,2-silaboration of N-heteroarenes was developed, leading to the formation of heterocyclic allylamines or enamines bearing a sp(3) C2-Si bond. The compounds were obtained either as N-acyl derivatives or as rearomatized 2-silyl-N-heteroarenes through one-pot procedures. A model of the six-membered ion-pair complex was proposed to explain the observed 1,2-regioselectivity, with KOtBu serving as an activating agent for the substrate and silylborane reagent.

An Aminative Rearrangement of O-(Arenesulfonyl)hydroxylamines: Facile Access to ortho-Sulfonyl Anilines

Charlotte Morrill et al.

Summary: In this study, we report a method for the direct synthesis of ortho-sulfonyl anilines through an aromatic rearrangement reaction. The reaction showed excellent regiocontrol for the ortho position(s) through an intermolecular mechanism. The observed regiocontrol was proposed to be a result of attractive non-covalent interactions during the C-N bond-forming step. Importantly, this method is complementary to classical aniline sulfonation and applicable to O-(benzylsulfonyl) hydroxylamines.
