Copper deposition on metallic and non-metallic single particles via impact electrochemistry

Abiola V. M. Oladej et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the possibility of depositing metals onto low-metal content particles using impact electrochemistry. Copper deposition on fly-ash cenospheres as well as silver and gold nanoparticles was achieved through electrochemical impacts. The correlation between impact signals and deposition potentials was confirmed. The electrochemical activity of cenospheres was shown to facilitate copper deposition, which was confirmed through SEM/EDX and ICP-MS analysis.

Palladium nanoparticles as emerging pollutants from motor vehicles: An in-depth review on distribution, uptake and toxicological effects in occupational and living environment

Aarzoo et al.

Summary: Palladium nanoparticles play a crucial role in reducing environmental pollution as a catalyst in vehicle exhaust systems. However, the increasing usage of palladium has led to the release of nano-sized particles, causing environmental pollution. Studies have shown the gradual increase of palladium particles in different urban environments and their absorption by living organisms. Understanding the risk and toxicity of palladium nanoparticles is essential for further research and development of safe and sustainable technologies.

A Review on Hydrometallurgical Processes for the Recovery of Valuable Metals from Spent Catalysts and Life Cycle Analysis Perspective

Minh Nhan Le et al.

Summary: Recovery of valuable metals such as cobalt, molybdenum, nickel, and vanadium from spent catalysts has attracted attention due to the depletion of high-grade ores. Various hydrometallurgical methods have been reviewed for metal recovery, including adsorption, chelation, ion exchange, leaching, precipitation, and solvent extraction. Combining these techniques is recommended for developing an effective process.

Improving the onset potential and Tafel slope determination of earth-abundant water oxidation electrocatalysts

Roger Sanchis-Gual et al.

Summary: This work introduces a fast and convenient method using cyclic voltammetry and coulovoltammetric responses to determine the onset potentials of three benchmark electrocatalysts. By quantifying the irreversible charges, the onset potential and Tafel slope values can be accurately determined without considering the redox contributions of the catalysts. This study demonstrates the applicability of coulovoltammetry as a powerful tool for investigating electrocatalytic performances.

Electrochemical recovery of low concentration of palladium from palladium(II) chloride of electroplating wastewater

Nadia Mansor et al.

Summary: The electrochemical recovery of low concentration of palladium from diluted palladium(II) chloride electroplating wastewater was achieved using an electrogenerative system with a three-dimensional cathode material of reticulated vitreous carbon. The use of sulfuric acid as the best cathode activation solution resulted in over 90% of palladium being recovered in 5 hours. The electrochemical reactor developed showed satisfactory results for palladium recovery from diluted electroplating wastewaters.
