Synergistic effects of CeO2/Cu2O on CO catalytic oxidation: Electronic interaction and oxygen defect

Chengyan Ge et al.

Summary: Cu and Ce species play important roles in CO catalytic oxidation, and their synergistic effect is worth investigating. This study compares the performance of CeO2/Cu2O on different crystal planes and reveals the impact of interfacial electronic interactions and oxygen defects on the catalytic reaction. The results show that CeO2/o-Cu2O {111} exhibits superior performance, thanks to the coordination unsaturated copper atoms on this crystal plane. Through interfacial electronic interactions, CeO2/o-Cu2O {111} generates more oxygen defects and improves the redox and activation abilities of CO and O-2. Furthermore, the study reveals the reaction mechanism of CeO2/o-Cu2O {111} in CO oxidation.
