Robotic Gastrectomy for Gastric Adenocarcinoma in the USA: Insights and Oncologic Outcomes in 220 Patients

Vivian E. Strong et al.

Summary: This study confirms the safety and oncologic feasibility of robotic gastrectomy for selected patients with gastric cancer. Proficiency can be achieved within 20 cases and mastery within 60-80 cases. Ideal candidates for this approach are patients with few comorbidities, BMI < 31kg/m², and tumors < 6cm.

Open versus minimally invasive total gastrectomy after neoadjuvant chemotherapy: results of a European randomized trial

Nicole van der Wielen et al.

Summary: A randomized trial conducted in European hospitals found that minimally invasive total gastrectomy after neoadjuvant therapy is not inferior to open total gastrectomy in terms of oncological quality of resection in Western patients with resectable gastric cancer. Furthermore, there were no differences in postoperative complications and recovery between the two surgical approaches.

Assessment of Robotic Versus Laparoscopic Distal Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer A Randomized Controlled Trial

Jun Lu et al.

Summary: Evaluation of short-term outcomes for patients with GC who underwent RDG or LDG showed that RDG had lower postoperative morbidity, faster recovery, milder inflammatory responses, and improved lymphadenectomy compared to LDG. Additionally, patients in the RDG group were more likely to initiate adjuvant chemotherapy earlier, despite higher total hospital costs.

Summary: In response to the rapid development in endoscopic treatments for early gastric cancer, the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society collaborated with the Japanese Gastric Cancer Association to produce guidelines in 2014. The revised second edition covers seven categories to provide a comprehensive overview of knowledge in the field.

Benchmarks for nodal yield and ratio for node-positive gastric cancer

Derek J. Erstad et al.

Summary: Through analyzing node-positive gastric cancer patients who underwent curative-intent gastrectomy, it was found that having more than 30 examined lymph nodes and a lymph node ratio less than 30% were significantly associated with longer recurrence-free survival and overall survival. These markers can serve as important benchmarks in the surgical management of gastric cancer in the United States.

D2 dissection improves disease-specific survival in advanced gastric cancer patients: 15-year follow-up results of the Italian Gastric Cancer Study Group D1 versus D2 randomised controlled trial

M. Degiuli et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of D1 and D2 gastrectomy on gastric cancer patients, showing that D2 surgery can significantly improve survival and reduce gastric cancer-related mortality in patients with advanced disease and lymph node metastasis. D1 surgery may be more effective in older patients and early-stage disease.
