Grafting of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate onto polyacrylonitrile using supercritical carbon dioxide

Pei-Hua Chen et al.

Summary: Supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) was used to modify the surface of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) membrane by grafting the hydrophilic monomer, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). The grafting reaction was achieved using a two-step process in SCCO2, resulting in a significantly improved hydrophilicity of the modified PAN surface.

Synthesis of cyclic polystyrene in supercritical carbon dioxide green solvent

Sahar Daneshyan et al.

Summary: This study presents the first synthesis of cyclic polystyrene (cPS) in supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) media. The results show that the SC-CO2 pressure has a significant influence on the yield and properties of the product. The use of environmentally friendly solvents allows for the production of polymers with lower molecular weight and higher environmental compatibility.
