An overview on the Rhyacian-Orosirian (ca. 2.1-2.0 Ga) granitic magmatism of the Alto Moxoto Terrane and its implications for the crustal evolution of the Borborema Province, NE Brazil

Lauro Cezar Montefalco de Lira Santos et al.

Summary: This study investigates the geochemical and isotopic data of deformed granitic-gneissic suites in the Alto Moxoto Terrane of NE Brazil, which were formed around 2.1-2.0 Ga. The results suggest that these rocks were derived from upper mantle melting in a subduction-related setting, and indicate an early crustal evolution.

Summary: This study uses enhanced aeromagnetic images to reveal internal details of the Neoproterozoic-Cambrian intracontinental Patos-Pernambuco shear system and estimate shear strains and displacements. The study confirms the sinistral nature of the shear zones in the Central Domain and suggests different deformation patterns in the Northern Domain.

Mineral chemistry constrains on crystallization conditions and petrological evolution of the Teixeira Batholith granitoids, Borborema Province, NE Brazil

Jefferson Valdemiro de Lima et al.

Summary: The Teixeira Batholith is mainly composed of syenogranite, monzogranite, and quartz syenite, with petrographic, mineral chemistry, and zircon trace element composition suggesting that it consists of oxidized I-type granites. The physical crystallization parameters indicate that these granitoids were generated from a magma with high-potassium affinity, crystallizing at intermediate crustal levels.

The onset of the right-lateral strike-slip setting recorded in magnetic fabrics of A-type granite plutons of the Ribeira belt (SE Brazil)

Carlos J. Archanjo et al.

Summary: Strike-slip shear zones formed during continental collisions accommodate the convergence and indentation of rigid cratonic blocks, with shear deformation associated with syntectonic granitic magmatism in high-temperature settings. The A-type plutons constrain the onset of ductile transpressional deformation at approximately 595 Ma and continued up to 550 Ma in the western Ribeira belt, marking a transition to more brittle transtensional conditions. These results are consistent with the convergence and indentation of the Congo-Sao Francisco craton, partitioning deformation across the orogen and promoting lateral escape through dextral shear zones.

Gustavo Viegas et al.

Summary: By analyzing the microstructures of ultramylonite, pseudotachylyte, and cataclasite, it was found that they exhibit brittle-ductile fabrics, suggesting that pseudotachylyte was formed through seismic ruptures along discrete planes between the host granodiorite and ultramylonite.

Jiri Zak et al.

Summary: The Canadian Superior Province is a key area for studying Late Archean geological processes and mechanisms of rock growth, with a proto-cratonic core and several juvenile terranes. This study of a pluton in northeastern Quebec reveals a two-stage assembly process through analysis of rock structures and tectonic evolution.

Late Ediacaran lateral-escape tectonics as recorded by the Patos shear zone (Borborema Province, NE Brazil)

Carlos Jose Archanjo et al.

Summary: The lateral escape tectonics mediated by strike-slip fault zones are an efficient mechanism of rock deformation in collision zones. The study in Northeastern Brazil reveals the timing of high-grade metamorphism and compositions of terranes involved in shear deformation. Partial melting was found to have occurred in the Late Ediacaran, and differential shear zone exhumation is indicated by cooling rates.
