Input energy reduction principle of structures with generic tuned mass damper inerter

Zhipeng Zhao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the inerter-based tuned mass damper is effective in reducing input energy and enhancing dissipation power, leading to improved performance compared to conventional tuned mass dampers. By optimizing the distribution of inertances on two separating inerters, the dual benefits of input energy reduction and enhanced dissipation power can be achieved, providing a clear physical basis for lightweight control.

Effects of stiffness and configuration of brace-viscous damper systems on the response mitigation of offshore jacket platforms

Mostafa Vaezi et al.

Summary: The study shows that the brace-viscous damper system significantly affects the dynamic response of offshore platforms, with the toggle configuration performing the best in reducing platform displacement standard deviation and maximizing reduction of base shear force. Increasing the brace area leads to a decrease in structure displacement response for all configurations. Through numerical simulations, an optimized spatial distribution for the brace-viscous damper system is proposed, with the toggle configuration outperforming other damper systems and uncontrolled platforms in terms of dynamic response.

Viscous inertial mass damper (VIMD) for seismic responses control of the coupled adjacent buildings

Lei Lu et al.

Summary: This study examines the efficacy of using an inertial mass damper (IMD) in parallel with a viscous damper (VD) on the sky bridge to control the vibration of two adjacent towers under random earthquake excitation. Through optimization analysis, it is found that the viscous inertial mass damper (VIMD) can achieve better control performance and requires smaller damping coefficient and axial stiffness compared to traditional viscous dampers. This makes it a useful alternative for engineering practice in vibration mitigation strategies.
