Radiative transition properties of singly charged magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium ions

Mandeep Kaur et al.

Summary: This study calculates accurate values of electric dipole (E1) amplitudes and uncertainties for transitions among low-lying states of Mg+, Ca+, Sr+, and Ba+ ions, and provides transition probabilities, oscillator strengths, and lifetimes by combining experimental data. Additionally, electric quadrupole (E2) and magnetic dipole (M1) amplitudes for metastable states are also calculated, estimating corresponding transition probabilities and lifetimes. The results are compared with existing theoretical studies and experimental data, and are expected to be useful for astrophysical observations and simulations.

Recent progress in laser spectroscopy of the actinides

Michael Block et al.

Summary: The interest in performing laser spectroscopy on the heaviest elements is driven by the significant influence of relativistic effects, electron correlations, and quantum electrodynamics on their atomic structure, as well as the potential to access nuclear properties in a nuclear-model independent way. Experimental progress in this field has benefited from continuous methodological and technical developments, such as the introduction of buffer-gas-stopping techniques. Challenges include small yields, short half-lives of nuclides, and the need to search for atomic transitions in a wide spectral range guided by theoretical predictions.

Relativistic coupled-cluster calculation of hyperfine-structure constants of La2+

Fang Li et al.

Summary: The hyperfine-structure constants A and B of 24 low-lying states of La2+ are calculated using the singles and doubles approximated relativistic coupled-cluster method. The results show reasonable agreement with experimental values for certain states, but significant deviations for others. The role of electron correlation effects is further investigated using lower-order many-body perturbation theory and coupled-cluster methods.

Summary: This study calculates the energy and radiative transition properties of singly charged Ra using the singles and doubles approximated relativistic coupled-cluster method. The results are compared with experimental data, providing accurate values of electric and magnetic matrix elements for transitions in Ra+. This work reports high-precision atomic property calculations of Ra+ and discusses the role of electron correlation in these properties.

Nuclear clocks for testing fundamental physics

E. Peik et al.

Summary: The low-energy, long-lived isomer in Th-229 has inspired physicists to explore multidisciplinary research and to develop a highly precise nuclear clock to test fundamental physics principles. In addition, plans are in place to use the nuclear clock for searches of variations in electromagnetic and strong coupling constants, as well as for dark matter studies.

Ab initio calculations of the hyperfine structure of Ra+ and evaluations of the electric quadrupole moment Q of the Ra-209,Ra-211,Ra-221,Ra-223 nuclei

Fei-Chen Li et al.

Summary: The relativistic coupled-cluster method was utilized to calculate various hyperfine-structure constants of low-lying states of Ra+, confirming the validity of the calculations. The study successfully extracted the electric quadrupole moments of Ra nuclei by combining theoretical and experimental data, and assessed the contribution of magnetic octupole hyperfine interaction to the hyperfine splitting. The sensitivity of hyperfine-structure interval measurements in Ra-223(+) was found to be on the order of kHz, revealing the effect of nuclear octupole moments.
