Studies on nitrile substituted bisphenol-F and bisphenol-Z based benzoxazines with enhanced thermal and hydrophobic properties

Subasri Appasamy et al.

Summary: Two structurally different benzoxazines were developed through Mannich condensation reaction using bisphenol-F and bisphenol-Z, showing slightly lower polymerization temperature and better thermal stability for poly(BF-abn) compared to poly(BZ-abn). The formation of a three dimensional cross-linked network structure was confirmed after thermal curing, and both benzoxazine samples exhibited excellent hydrophobic behavior.

Studies on Syntheses, Spectral, Thermal and Hydrophobic Behavior of Cardanol Based Tetra Functional Benzoxazines

T. J. Midhina et al.

Summary: In this study, a tetra-functional benzoxazine was synthesized and characterized, showing that C-AP-IPDA has a lower curing temperature compared to C-AP-DDM. The thermal stability and hydrophobicity of C-AP-DDM are superior to that of C-AP-IPDA.

Effective Low Temperature Cure Cardanol Based Mono-Functional Benzoxazines: A Comparison

Duraisamy Aishwarya et al.

Summary: This study assessed the thermal and hydrophobic behavior of sustainable and renewable bio-based cardanol benzoxazines synthesized using different aryl amines with varied functionalities. The structural elucidation and thermal stability of the benzoxazines were characterized, with p-aminophenol based benzoxazine showing the lowest curing temperature. Additionally, certain benzoxazines exhibited higher thermal stability and flame retardant behavior.

Development of bio-based benzoxazines coated melamine foam for oil-water separation

Hariharan Arumugam et al.

Summary: Mono and di-functional benzoxazines were developed using sustainable bio-based cardanol and less hazardous synthetic bisphenol-F, and coated on melamine foam to exhibit hydrophobic and oleophilic behavior. The optimal water contact angle was obtained with 50 wt% of benzoxazine coating, displaying potential utility in oil/water separation and environmental pollution control. Among the coatings, C-i benzoxazine at 50 wt% concentration showed the highest water contact angle, indicating promising applications.
