NHX-Type Na+/H+ Antiporter Gene Expression Under Different Salt Levels and Allelic Diversity of HvNHX in Wild and Cultivated Barleys

Zahra Jabeen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the expression profile of HvNHX gene isoforms in wild and cultivated barley under salt stress and identifies candidate genes associated with ion regulation and distinctive alleles of HvNHX1 and HvNHX3 in Tibetan wild barley that confer salinity tolerance. The results show that XZ16 is a tolerant genotype with least reduction of root and leaf dry weight under salt stress. The findings provide insights into the genetic variation and mechanisms of salt tolerance in wild barley.

Reassessing the role of ion homeostasis for improving salinity tolerance in crop plants

Sahana Basu et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the advancements in understanding the ion homeostasis mechanism in crop plants, emphasizing the role of transporters involved in regulating cytosolic Na+ levels and the conservation of K+/Na+ ratio. Additionally, it explores the expression profiles of candidate genes for ion homeostasis in different developmental stages and tissues of Oryza sativa, as well as the efforts to enhance salinity tolerance in crops through manipulation of stress-associated genes.

Genome-wide identification and expression profiling of DREB genes in Saccharum spontaneum

Zhen Li et al.

Summary: This study identified 12 DREB1 genes and 6 DREB2 genes in the genome of S. spontaneum, with all proteins containing a conserved AP2/ERF domain. Phylogenetic analysis suggested tandem duplication contributed to the expansion of DREB1-type genes in sugarcane. Expression profiling revealed that certain SsDREB genes were involved in both development and stress responses in S. spontaneum, highlighting the important role of DREBs in multiple aspects of plant physiology.

The NAC-type transcription factor GmNAC20 improves cold, salinity tolerance, and lateral root formation in transgenic rice plants

Rajesh Yarra et al.

Summary: The NAC-type transcription factor GmNAC20 was successfully transformed into the rice genome through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, leading to enhanced tolerance to salinity and cold stress in transgenic rice plants. The overexpression of GmNAC20 also induced lateral root formation and increased antioxidant enzyme activities, making it a promising candidate for improving abiotic stress tolerance in important food crops.
