Magnetic anisotropy of the van der Waals ferromagnet Cr2Ge2Te6 studied by angular-dependent x-ray magnetic circular dichroism

M. Suzuki et al.

Summary: The article investigates the ferromagnetic properties and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) of the van der Waals ferromagnet Cr2Ge2Te6 (CGT), revealing that the single-ion anisotropy (SIA) of the Cr atom is opposite in direction to the observed PMA, suggesting the need to consider anisotropic exchange coupling between Cr atoms through the ligand Te 5p orbitals to explain the weak PMA of CGT.

Asymmetric magnetization reversal of the Heusler alloy Co2FeSi as free layer in an CoFeB/MgO/Co2FeSi magnetic tunnel junction

Yury P. Kabanov et al.

Summary: The in-plane magnetization reversal behavior of the Co2FeSi Heusler alloy free layer within a bottom-pinned magnetic tunnel junction film is studied, revealing anisotropic behavior under applied magnetic fields. Smooth, coherent rotation away from the easy axis is observed under in-plane fields perpendicular to the exchange bias direction, while asymmetric reversal behavior is seen along the easy axis.

Critical switching current density of magnetic tunnel junction with shape perpendicular magnetic anisotropy through the combination of spin-transfer and spin-orbit torques

Doo Hyung Kang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the critical switching current density of MTJs with S-PMA through the interplay of STT and SOT using theoretical and numerical methods. The results showed that an increase in the current density inducing SOT leads to a decrease in the critical switching current density inducing STT, and increasing thickness increases J(STT,c) while increasing diameter decreases it. Additionally, the effect of thickness and spin-orbit field-like torque on J(STT,c) was explored, indicating that J(STT,c) decreases with increasing beta but slowly increases with increasing thickness and beta.

Manipulating Ferromagnetism in Few-Layered Cr2Ge2Te6

Weizhuang Zhuo et al.

Summary: The discovery of magnetism in 2D materials presents new opportunities for exploring novel quantum states and developing spintronic devices. This study demonstrates a significant enhancement of ferromagnetism and magnetic easy-axis switching in few-layered Cr2Ge2Te6 using SIC-FETs, with the easy axis of magnetization tunable by electric fields. Electric gating also increases the Curie temperature and enables further heterostructure engineering on the sample surface in the SIC-FET device configuration, offering potential for electrically controlled quantum phenomena in a single device.

The induction of half-metallicity and enhanced ferromagnetism in a Cr2Ge2Te6 monolayer via electron doping and alkali metal adsorption

Asif Ilyas et al.

Summary: This article investigates the effects of electron- and hole-doping on a 2D Cr2Ge2Te6 (CGT) monolayer, revealing that electron-doping induces half-metallicity and enhances magnetism, particularly in improving ferromagnetic stability. Adsorption of alkali and alkaline-earth metals manipulates electron-doping effects by pushing up the Fermi level, allowing the spin-up channel to conduct while the spin-down channel remains insulating.

A. K. Nair et al.

Summary: By studying the electronic and magnetic behavior of 2-dimensional material Cr2Ge2Te6, the impact of strain and electric field on the material properties was revealed. Coupling strain and electric field led to a significant increase in Curie temperature, which could have significant implications in the development of 2D spintronic architecture.

Pressure control of the magnetic anisotropy of the quasi-two-dimensional van der Waals ferromagnet Cr2Ge2Te6

T. Sakurai et al.

Summary: The pressure-dependent measurements of Cr2Ge2Te6 indicate a gradual suppression of ferromagnetic properties, with a reduction in critical transition temperature and transition width, as well as an increase in the field needed to saturate the magnetization. The anisotropy of the ferromagnetic resonance signal decreases with increasing pressure, suggesting a potential change in magnetocrystalline anisotropy at higher pressures.
