Disclosing the Origin of Transition Metal Oxides as Peroxidase (and Catalase) Mimetics

Bo Yuan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of how transition metal oxides mimic peroxidase activity, pointing out that the poor activity of Fe3O4 is due to its slow redox rate with H2O2. This is crucial for selecting materials with high performance.

Cluster Nanozymes with Optimized Reactivity and Utilization of Active Sites for Effective Peroxidase (and Oxidase) Mimicking

Jieru Zhang et al.

Summary: Single-atom nanozymes show lower activity in mimicking natural enzymes compared to metallic counterparts on cluster nanozymes, which exhibit higher site activity and atom efficiency. Cluster nanozymes not only mimic horseradish peroxidase in glucose detection, but are also demonstrated to be a better oxidase mimetic for glutathione detection.

Bulk-to-nano regulation of layered metal oxide gears H2O2 activation pathway for its stoichiometric utilization in selective oxidation reaction

Guohan Sun et al.

Summary: H2O2 has been widely used as a green oxidant in many heterogeneous reactions. However, its disproportionation accelerated by either Bronsted acid (BA) or redox metal sites often results in low H2O2 utilization. In this study, layered HNb3O8 with structurally preserved BA sites was used to investigate the H2O2 activation pathway in the presence of both sites. The results showed that regulating the exposure of Nb sites via bulk-to-nano control hindered H2O2 disproportionation promoted by BA sites, and the bidentate configuration formed on highly distorted NbOx exhibited the best reactivity in alkene epoxidation with near stoichiometric H2O2 utilization.

Surface Fingerprinting of Faceted Metal Oxides and Porous Zeolite Catalysts by Probe-Assisted Solid-State NMR Approaches

Xianfeng Yi et al.

Summary: Acid catalysis in heterogeneous systems plays a crucial role in various industrial processes, with the performance closely linked to acidic features of the catalysts. Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (SSNMR) technique with suitable probe molecules is recognized as a reliable tool to study the structures and properties of acidic sites. This approach provides qualitative and quantitative information on each acidic site, contributing to a deeper understanding of solid acid catalysis.
