Comparative Study of Vibrational Raman Optical Activity with Different Time-Dependent Density Functional Approximations: The VROA36 Database

Pierpaolo Morgante et al.

Summary: A new database, VROA36, is introduced to investigate the performance of computational approaches for vibrational Raman optical activity calculations. The results show that the four tested functionals perform equally well and achieve good agreement with experimental data. For molecules in resonance conditions, the inclusion of a complex linear response method is important to obtain physically meaningful results. It is recommended to use the tested functional approximations and flexible basis sets for theoretical VROA studies.

Accuracy and Reliability in the Simulation of Vibrational Spectra: A Comprehensive Benchmark of Energies and Intensities Issuing From Generalized Vibrational Perturbation Theory to Second Order (GVPT2)

Qin Yang et al.

Summary: Vibrational spectroscopy is crucial for identifying and characterizing molecular species in astrochemistry and astrobiology. Computational spectroscopy, particularly DFT and VPT2 theory, play a key role in deepening our understanding, but striking a balance between reliability, feasibility, and interpretability remains a challenge.

Anharmonic DFT Study of Near-Infrared Spectra of Caffeine: Vibrational Analysis of the Second Overtones and Ternary Combinations

Justyna Grabska et al.

Summary: Anharmonic quantum chemical calculations were used to simulate and interpret the NIR spectrum of caffeine, revealing a highly convoluted nature with numerous overlapping bands beneath the observed spectral lineshape. Combination bands decisively dominate the NIR spectrum of caffeine, with first overtones significant between 6500-5500 cm(-1) and second overtones meaningful in higher wavenumber regions, particularly in the 10,000-7000 cm(-1) region.
