High temperature measurements of levitated gold nanospheres derived from gold suspensions

Joyce Coppock et al.

Summary: A technique for preparing highly charged Au nanospheres is described, which can be collected in a quadrupole ion trap and heated beyond the melting point of Au using a laser without discharging. The study observed that contaminants in the vacuum can have a profound effect on the thermal and optical properties of the Au nanospheres near their melting point.

Thermodynamic Effect of Pressure on Nucleation Activation Energy

Diego Vilar da Silva et al.

Summary: This paper studies the effect of pressure on nucleation, treating pressure as a thermodynamic variable for explanation. The analysis shows that pressure has a significant influence on the activation energy, comparable to undercooling, and can cause considerable variations. The curve representing the effect of pressure on activation energy is similar to those describing the refinement of structures under pressure during solidification.
