Vapor-Deposited Thin Films: Studying Crystallization and ?-relaxation Dynamics of the Molecular Drug Celecoxib

Aparna Beena Unni et al.

Summary: Crystallization is a major challenge in using glassy solids for technological applications. This study investigates the effect of reducing film thickness on the alpha-relaxation dynamics and crystallization tendency of vapor-deposited films of celecoxib (CXB), a pharmaceutical substance. The research finds that decreasing film thickness significantly decreases the crystallization rate and observes notable differences in relaxation dynamics between vapor-deposited thin films and spin-coated counterparts of the same thickness.

Stable Glasses of Organic Semiconductor Resist Crystallization

Kushal Bagchi et al.

Summary: Well-packed organic glasses prepared by physical vapor deposition show enhanced thermal and chemical stability, as well as increased resistance to crystallization. By controlling the deposition temperature, the resistance towards crystallization in PVD glasses of organic semiconductors can be significantly enhanced.

Surface equilibration mechanism controls the molecular packing of glassy molecular semiconductors at organic interfaces

Marie E. Fiori et al.

Summary: Superlattice structures of organic semiconductors Alq3 and DSA-Ph were prepared using PVD to study interfacial packing near buried organic-organic interfaces. Both X-ray scattering and spectroscopic ellipsometry results indicate that the substrate has a negligible influence on the PVD glass structure, suggesting the surface equilibration mechanism can describe PVD glass structure even within the first monolayer deposition on an organic substrate.

Toward Ultra-Efficient OLEDs: Approaches Based on Low Refractive Index Materials

Jaeho Lee et al.

Summary: Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have become indispensable in high-end mobile displays and television, but face challenges in exciton loss. This review explores a nano-pattern-free approach, low refractive index materials, and birefringent organic semiconductors to reduce surface plasmon polariton loss and achieve high external quantum efficiency.

On the Segmental Dynamics and the Glass Transition Behavior of Poly(2-vinylpyridine) in One- and Two-Dimensional Nanometric Confinement

Roksana Winkler et al.

Summary: Geometric nanoconfinement significantly influences the segmental dynamics of polymer glass-formers. When confined within alumina nanopores or prepared as thin films, P2VP showed no changes in glass transition behavior but exhibited a substantial broadening of alpha-relaxation time distribution. This effect was discussed in relation to interfacial energy, glass-transition temperature sensitivity, and density scaling.

Hydrothermal synthesis of WO3 film on rough surface to analyze methanol gas at room temperature

Sarthak Hajirnis et al.

Summary: The study synthesized WO3 thick films on rough and smooth glass substrates using the hydrothermal method, and characterized the samples using various techniques. The research discussed aspects such as crystallite size, grain composition, atomic sites, mesh parameters, micro-stresses, bond vibrations, and surface properties, and further explored the room temperature gas sensing mechanism.
