Flowing Gas Experiments Reveal Mechanistic Details of Interfacial Reactions on a Molecular Level at Knudsen Flow Conditions

Riccardo Iannarelli et al.

Summary: This paper presents the Knudsen flow experiments, its interpretation in terms of adsorption/desorption kinetics, and quantitative uptake on substrates. The critical design parameters of the Knudsen Flow Reactor (KFR) are described. The authors extend the experiment to the desorption phase at ambient temperature and provide analytical expressions for different experimental situations. They emphasize the interaction of semivolatile organic probe gases and small polar molecules with amorphous carbon and mineral dust materials. The paper also introduces the use of stirred-flow reactors for multidiagnostic studies of heterogeneous reactions.

Advances in Ultra-Trace Analytical Capability for Micro/Nanoplastics and Water-Soluble Polymers in the Environment: Fresh Falling Urban Snow

Zi Wang et al.

Summary: This study developed a method for quantifying micro/nanoplastics in water and snow matrices without sample pre-treatment, using mass spectrometry techniques and nanostructures. Soluble polymers and insoluble plastics were successfully observed and quantified in fresh falling snow. Through comprehensive physicochemical studies, information on morphology and composition of micro/nano-plastic particles was provided.

Photooxidation of arsenic in pristine and mine-impacted Canadian subarctic freshwater systems

Marc Amyot et al.

Summary: The study examined the photochemical oxidation as a significant redox process for arsenic (As) in northern freshwater systems. Results showed that under simulated solar radiation, water samples with added As(III) displayed rapid photooxidation controlled by UV radiation, short-lived oxidants, and organic matter concentration.
