Red-emission carbon dots as fluorescent on-off-on probe for highly sensitive and selective detection of Cu2+ and glutathione

Gan Ning et al.

Summary: This study establishes a sensitive and selective fluorescent on-off-on strategy for the synchronous detection of Cu2+ and glutathione in aqueous solution. The red carbon dots (R-CDs) used in this strategy show a long fluorescence lifetime and high quantum yield. The R-CDs exhibit a pH-responsive property and have low cytotoxicity. The assay can cover a wide range of Cu2+ and glutathione concentrations with low detection limits.

A coumarin based fluorescent probe enabling nanomolar detection of Zn2+ and Cu2+

Virendra Kumar et al.

Summary: A rationally designed fluorescent probe (R-1) constructed on a coumarin platform distinguished Zn2+ and Cu2+ ions through different mechanistic approaches at nanomolar concentrations. The probe exhibited fluorescence upon interaction with Zn2+ and reverted back to its dark state in the presence of Cu2+. The structural details of R-1 and its ensemble with Zn2+ were determined through single-crystal XRD studies, revealing intriguing coordination polymeric supramolecular structures.

Fluorescent and colorimetric sensors for selective detection of TNT and TNP explosives in aqueous medium through fluorescence emission enhancement mechanism

Hafiz Muhammad Junaid et al.

Summary: Due to increasing threats of terrorism and pollution, timely and rapid detection of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) and 2,4,6trinitrotoluene (TNT) explosives has become paramount. In this study, fluorenone sensor 3 was synthesized and found to selectively detect TNP, while sensors 4 and 5 were designed for selective nanoscale detection of TNT. The sensing mechanisms were supported by various analyses such as H-1 NMR titration and computational methodologies.

AIEE active new fluorescent and colorimetric probes for solution and vapor phase detection of Nitrobenzene: A reversible mechanochromism and application of logic gate

Suman Hanif et al.

Summary: Two new triphenylamine-based probes 1 and 2 were synthesized successfully through the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction. These probes exhibited aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) and reversible mechanochromic properties due to their unique propeller-shaped geometry. Particularly, they showed highly sensitive detection of nitrobenzene (NB) in both solution and vapor phase. The fluorescence response of the probes allowed for the construction of logic gates.

Fluorescein based fluorescent and colorimetric sensors for sensitive detection of TNP explosive in aqueous medium: Application of logic gate

Qanita Ilyas et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the rapid and cost-effective detection of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) explosive using two new fluorescein-based sensors (F2 and F3). The sensors displayed effective fluorescence quenching response towards TNP, enabling highly sensitive detection. The detection mechanism was investigated through various techniques, and the sensors showed selective and immediate colorimetric recognition of TNP with quick response time.

Aggregation-Induced Emission of Quinoline Based Fluorescent and Colorimetric Sensors for Rapid Detection of Fe3+ and 4-Nitrophenol in Aqueous Medium

Saddam Hussain et al.

Summary: New quinoline-based fluorescent sensors 4 and 5 with excellent aggregation induced emission (AIE) were synthesized for selective detection of Fe3+ and 4-NP in an aqueous medium. The sensors demonstrated high fluorescence emission accompanied by redshift in their absorption and emission spectra, indicating the formation of J-aggregates. The interaction mechanism with Fe3+ and 4-NP was investigated, and the sensors exhibited low limits of detection.

Receptor free fluorescent and colorimetric sensors for solution and vapor phase detection of hazardous pollutant nitrobenzene; a new structural approach to design AIEE active and piezofluorochromic sensors

Shumaila Majeed et al.

Summary: Two new AIEE active fluorenes were synthesized and used as receptor-free fluorescent sensors for the highly selective detection of nitrobenzene in solution and vapor phase. These sensors exhibited adjustable size cavities that allowed for the penetration of nitrobenzene, resulting in highly selective fluorescence quenching response. The sensors also displayed colorimetric detection and could be used as fluorescent ink, providing additional advantages.
