Ruthenium-Catalyzed PIII-Directed Remote ε-C-H Alkylation of Phosphines

Hui-Bei Xu et al.

Summary: This novel ruthenium-catalyzed strategy allows for the remote epsilon-C-H alkylation of phosphines with tertiary alkyl halides, delivering a wide variety of modified phosphines with excellent meta-site selectivity. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest the involvement of a P-III-assisted ortho-cyclometalation/remote sigma-activation pathway in this methodology.

Cooperative Ligand-Promoted P(III)-Directed Ruthenium-Catalyzed Remote Meta-C-H Alkylation of Tertiary Phosphines

Zheng-Xin Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, a ruthenium-catalyzed meta-selective C-H activation of phosphines using 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-dione as the ligand was developed, leading to efficient synthesis of meta-alkylated tertiary phosphines. These meta-alkylated phosphines showed superior performance in Pd-catalyzed Suzuki coupling compared to commercially available ortho-substituted phosphines, demonstrating the practicality of this methodology for the synthesis of difunctionalized phosphines.

A Strategy for Amide C-N Bond Activation with Ruthenium Catalyst: Selective Aromatic Acylation

Wenkuan Li et al.

Summary: This study introduces a strategy for amide C-N bond activation using a ruthenium catalyst, where in situ formed bis-cycloruthenated complexes are demonstrated as key active species with superior oxidative addition ability. The direct C-H bond activation of 2-arylpyridines followed by amide C-N bond activation in the presence of a ruthenium precatalyst resulted in moderate to good yields of monoacylation products, with synthetically useful functional groups remaining intact during the tandem C-H/C-N bond activation reactions.
