Pd and photoredox dual catalysis assisted decarboxylative ortho-benzoylation of N-phenyl-7-azaindoles

Shruti Rajput et al.

Summary: The directing group assisted decarboxylative ortho-benzoylation of N-aryl-7-azaindoles with alpha-keto acids has been achieved by synergistic visible light promoted photoredox and palladium catalysis. The approach offers a rapid method for the synthesis of aryl ketones from simple alpha-keto acid precursors via generation of a benzoyl radical intermediate. The resulting compounds exhibit excellent site-selectivity and good functional group compatibility, suggesting potential anti-cancer and anti-viral activities.

Visible Light Promoted, Catalyst-Free Radical Carbohydroxylation and Carboetherification under Mild Biomimetic Conditions

Lisa-Marie Altmann et al.

Summary: Metal and catalyst-free carbohydroxylations and carboetherifications have been achieved at room temperature through the combination of high aryl diazonium concentration and visible light irradiation. The weak charge transfer interactions between diazonium salt and alkene significantly influence the reaction course, offering potential for aryldiazonium-based radical arylations without the need for a photocatalyst or particular additive.

Visible Light-Mediated In Situ Generation of δ,δ-Disubstituted p-Quinone Methides: Construction of a Sterically Congested Quaternary Stereocenter

Arun Sharma et al.

Summary: An unprecedented visible light-assisted and zinc triflate-catalyzed method for constructing a diaryl-substituted quaternary stereocenter is reported, yielding moderate to high yields of 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-substituted aldehydes and ketones. The reaction is believed to proceed through in situ generation of p-quinone methide via a [2+2] cycloaddition-retroelectrocyclization of benzoquinone and acetylene in blue light, followed by a zinc triflate-catalyzed vinylogous Michael addition reaction with nucleophiles.

Recent Advances in the Direct Functionalization of Isoindolinones for the Synthesis of 3,3-Disubstituted Isoindolinones

Long Chen et al.

Summary: The construction of tetrasubstituted carbon centers, especially chiral ones, is a challenging topic in the synthesis of natural products and related drugs. Recent focus has been on developing isoindolinones with diverse tetrasubstituted carbon centers, such as spirocyclic and all-carbon or heteroatom-containing centers, due to their wide range of biological and pharmaceutical activities. Research has mainly concentrated on methods for preparing these skeletons, with a distinction between direct functionalization of parent isoindolinones and lactam-ring-formation-involved reactions.
