Three-dimensional in vitro tissue culture models of brain organoids

Jing Gong et al.

Summary: Brain organoids are three-dimensional structures derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells, capable of modeling brain development, evolution, and diseases in vitro. Advances in biomaterials, technologies, and cell biology have enabled the construction of human-specific brain structures, although challenges like long-term culture, necrosis, and hypoxic cores still hinder organoid growth.

Neurotrauma Biomarker Levels and Adverse Symptoms Among Military and Law Enforcement Personnel Exposed to Occupational Overpressure Without Diagnosed Traumatic Brain Injury

Angela M. Boutte et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between concussion-like symptoms and serum levels of neurotrauma biomarkers among military and law enforcement personnel. The results suggest that long-term exposure to LLOP during occupational training may affect serum levels of neurotrauma biomarkers. Assessing biomarkers and symptoms in healthy individuals may be beneficial for military occupational medicine risk management.

Thorough overview of ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase-L1 and glial fibrillary acidic protein as tandem biomarkers recently cleared by US Food and Drug Administration for the evaluation of intracranial injuries among patients with traumatic brain injury

Kevin K. W. Wang et al.

Summary: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of mortality and morbidity across all ages, yet there is no FDA-approved drug for treatment. The heterogeneity and complexity of TBI make accurate assessment and prediction challenging. Biomarkers such as ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase-L1 and glial fibrillary acidic protein have been identified to improve diagnostic accuracy, especially in mild TBI cases.
