Metal Complexes or Chelators with ROS Regulation Capacity: Promising Candidates for Cancer Treatment

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play crucial roles in biological functions and cancer progression. Intervention in the ROS homeostasis of cancer cells through chelating agents or metal complexes is an important anti-cancer strategy, as it can inhibit the activity of antioxidant enzymes or directly regulate ROS levels. This review comprehensively analyzes metal complexes or chelators with ROS regulation capacity, aiming to develop novel inorganic anti-cancer drugs based on ROS regulation.

Mina Zohrevandi et al.

Summary: The study synthesized two metal complexes C1 and C2 through one-pot reactions, and characterized them using spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography. The results showed that the metal-ligand interactions are mainly driven by electrostatic interactions. In vitro experiments demonstrated that both C1 and C2 exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against the MCF7 cell line.
