Scalable robust nano-porous Zr-based MOF adsorbent with high-capacity for sustainable water purification

Summary: To address the global challenges of water scarcity and contamination, this study developed a high-performance water treatment material, a defective MOF-808, which exhibited high adsorption capacity and selectivity for tetracycline antibiotics. The material showed excellent performance across a wide range of contaminant concentrations and even under harsh conditions. Both experimental and simulation results indicated that the adsorption mechanism involved both physical and chemical processes. The defects in the material enhanced adsorption performance by selectively reacting with the contaminants. Economic estimation and scalable reactor tests confirmed the environmental safety and potential for sustainable water treatment at a pilot scale.

The optimization of pore structure in the BC layer and the use of 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid for crosslinking reaction between fibers were key factors in achieving the desired properties of the composite.

Zr-MOFs loaded on polyurethane foam by polydopamine for enhanced dye adsorption

Summary: In this study, PDA/Zr-MOFs/PU foam was synthesized for dye removal from wastewater. The polydopamine coating improved the dispersion of Zr-MOFs nanoparticles and enhanced their interaction with the PU foam substrate. The prepared foam showed higher adsorption capacity and efficiency for crystal violet and rhodamine B, and maintained stability and reusability after multiple cycles.
