Update of the fractions of cardiovascular diseases and mental disorders attributable to psychosocial work factors in Europe

Isabelle Niedhammer et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the impact of psychosocial work exposures on cardiovascular diseases and mental disorders in 35 countries in Europe in 2015. Results showed significant associations between job strain and depression, as well as a stronger impact of long working hours on cardiovascular diseases among men. Overall, preventive policies targeting these modifiable exposures could help reduce the burden of disease in the workplace.

A three-armed randomised controlled trial investigating the comparative impact of guidance on the efficacy of a web-based stress management intervention and health impairing and promoting mechanisms of prevention

Patricia Nixon et al.

Summary: Web-based stress management interventions (SMI) are increasingly popular due to their ability to fit into digital lifestyles, reduce barriers of uptake, and scale easily. This study compared the efficacy of adherence-focused guidance and self-help on an occupational SMI, finding both to be effective in reducing stress and improving health- and work-related outcomes. However, there was no clear superiority of adherence-focused guidance over self-help in terms of efficacy.

Digital mHealth Interventions for Employees Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Their Effects on Workplace Outcomes

Elizabeth Stratton et al.

Summary: The study results indicate that digital mHealth interventions have a small but potentially sustained positive impact on employee engagement and productivity. Similar small and non-significant effects were observed for absenteeism and presenteeism. Therefore, there is a need to enable employers to deliver these low-cost interventions to help improve employee mental health.

Psychosocial work exposures and health outcomes: a meta-review of 72 literature reviews with meta-analysis

Isabelle Niedhammer et al.

Summary: This meta-review identified significant associations between psychosocial work factors and mental disorders and cardiovascular diseases. Job strain and long working hours were found to be significantly associated with coronary heart diseases, stroke, and depression. More research is needed to explore other exposures and outcomes, and determine the causality of these associations.
