Origin of open-circuit voltage reduction in high-mobility perovskite solar cells

Hyuna Lee et al.

Summary: This article provides a new insight into the charge-carrier mobility in perovskite solar cells using experimentally calibrated numerical simulations. It is found that increasing the mobility substantially improves the short-circuit current, but simultaneously decreases the open-circuit voltage, resulting in efficiency roll-off in the high-mobility regime. The increased bending of potential profiles and decreased electric field due to carrier diffusion are identified as the key mechanisms behind this behavior, providing a theoretical guideline for material and device engineering.

Origins of the long-range exciton diffusion in perovskite nanocrystal films: photon recycling vs exciton hopping

David Giovanni et al.

Summary: Research found that excitons in CH3NH3PbBr3 perovskite nanocrystal films can travel over 1 micrometer mainly due to exciton hopping between nanocrystals and, to a lesser extent, photon recycling generating more charge carriers. Perovskite nanocrystals connected by octylamine ligands exhibited the longest exciton hopping range compared to other connection modes. This discovery highlights the potential of lead halide perovskite nanocrystal films for optoelectronic applications and enhances understanding of long-range energy transport mechanisms.

Efficient perovskite solar cells via improved carrier management

Jason J. Yoo et al.

Summary: Metal halide perovskite solar cells have shown great potential to disrupt the silicon solar cell market with their improved performance, yet still face limitations in light-harvesting due to charge carrier recombination. Efforts to enhance charge carrier management offer a path to increase device performance and approach the theoretical efficiency limit of PSCs.

Surface Reconstruction of Halide Perovskites During Post-treatment

Shaun Tan et al.

Summary: In recent years, postfabrication surface treatment strategies have played a crucial role in improving the stability and performance of halide perovskite photovoltaics. This study utilized complementary surface-sensitive and depth-resolved techniques to observe the reconstruction of the perovskite surface induced by the common solvent isopropyl alcohol. The findings suggest that isopropyl alcohol assists in the adsorption process of organic ammonium salts to the surface, enhancing their defect passivation effects.
