Aging mechanism of polyetheretherketone powder during layer-wise infrared radiation of high-temperature laser powder bed fusion

Peng Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the aging mechanism of polyetheretherketone powder under infrared radiation, revealing that infrared radiation promotes particle spheroidization and crystalline structure organization but reduces crystallinity in the powder.

Comparative study on 3D printing of polyamide 12 by selective laser sintering and multi jet fusion

Chao Cai et al.

Summary: A systematic comparison of polyamide 12 (PA12) parts printed by Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) techniques revealed that MJF-printed specimens had slightly stronger mechanical strength and smoother front and side surfaces than SLS-printed counterparts.

Universal process diagrams for laser sintering of polymers

Claas Bierwisch et al.

Summary: This study theoretically analyzes and numerically simulates the laser irradiation step and thermo-viscous flow during selective laser sintering process on polymeric materials using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method. It introduces the concept of attenuation melt ratio (AMR) and constructs normalized process diagrams to optimize mechanical properties of materials. The predictive quality of these process windows is confirmed through assessment of mechanical properties of laser-sintered parts made of different polymers.

Loading of the lumbar spine during transition from standing to sitting: effect of fusion versus motion preservation at L4-L5 and L5-S1

Avinash G. Patwardhan et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of fusion and motion preservation at L4-L5 and L5-S1 on lumbar spine loads and proximal segment motions during the transition from standing to sitting. The results showed that fusion resulted in increased flexion moments and motion of proximal segments, while motion preservation restored lumbar spine loads and proximal segment motion to intact levels.
