Temperature dependent negative permittivity in solid solutions Sr2Mn1-xSnxO4 (x=0, 0.3, 0.5)

Gurudeo Nirala et al.

Summary: Several compositions of Sr2Mn1-xSnxO4 system were synthesized using solid-state ceramic method in air. A change in the sign of the permittivity above a specific temperature was observed at all frequencies, and it was found that this negative permittivity was caused by plasma oscillations of thermally excited free charge carriers. XPS analysis confirmed mixed-valence states of Mn (Mn4+ and Mn3+) and Sn (Sn4+ and Sn2+) ions, while UV-vis.-IR spectroscopy results indicated the generation of defect states in the forbidden bandgap region of Sr2MnO4 on Sn substitution at Mn site. These synthesized samples show promise as metamaterials for applications in the radio frequency (10 Hz-2 MHz) region due to their high-temperature plasmonic behavior.

Effect of direct-current biasing on the adjustable radio-frequency negative permittivity characteristics of Bi2SiO5/multiwall carbon nanotube metacomposites

Toton Haldar et al.

Summary: Metacomposites of Bi2SiO5 (BSO) and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) with adjustable negative permittivity were prepared using a hydrothermal method. The interconnected MWCNT formed a three-dimensional conductive network in the metacomposites, leading to the tunable negative permittivity attributed to the low-frequency plasmon resonance of free Drude carriers. The study also investigated the impact of direct current biasing voltage on the negative permittivity characteristics in the radio frequency region, providing a novel strategy for adjusting the negative permittivity value for potential applications in sensors.

Doped ceramics of indium oxides for negative permittivity materials in MHz-kHz frequency regions

Guohua Fan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the negative permittivity in indium tin oxide (ITO) ceramics, revealing that the negative permittivity is mainly caused by plasma oscillations of free carriers, while the dielectric loss is mainly attributed to conduction loss. The magnitude and frequency dispersion of negative permittivity are mainly determined by carrier concentration, and the mechanism has been preliminarily understood from the perspective of carriers.

Thermally activated polaron tunnelling conduction mechanism in Sr2MnO4 synthesized by quenching in ambient atmosphere

Gurudeo Nirala et al.

Summary: The oxide Sr2MnO4 was synthesized using the solid-state reaction technique, and its purity and structure were verified through FTIR and XRD analysis. The band gap was calculated to be 1.15 eV, and XPS analysis revealed the presence of Mn3+ and Mn4+ valence states. AC electrical conductivity measurements at different temperatures and frequencies showed a change in the conduction mechanism.
