Microstructure and corrosion of non-equimolar multi-principal element alloys hardened by metastable precipitates

A. M. Panindre et al.

Summary: The research focused on the design and corrosion resistance of five single-phase Ni-Fe-Cr-Mo-W-X multi principal element alloys, which were heat treated at 800 degrees C to increase hardness and strength through the precipitation of secondary phases. After aging, the MPEA with Al showed the most significant increase in hardness, about 90%. Electron microscopy revealed the presence of multiple phases in the aged MPEAs that differed from those predicted at thermodynamic equilibrium.

Tuning the near room temperature oxidation behavior of high-entropy alloy nanoparticles

Jing Gao et al.

Summary: In-situ environmental transmission electron microscopy observations were conducted on high-entropy alloy nanoparticles to investigate their dynamic oxidation processes. The study revealed that different alloy compositions can lead to different oxidation products and behaviors. The results demonstrate that oxidation processes are non-equilibrium and strongly influenced by nanoparticle size and surface area.

Plasma Hsp90 levels in patients with systemic sclerosis and relation to lung and skin involvement: a cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Hana Storkanova et al.

Summary: According to the study, plasma levels of Hsp90 are increased in patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls, and are associated with increased inflammatory activity, worsened lung function, and extent of skin involvement in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. In patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease treated with cyclophosphamide, baseline Hsp90 levels can predict changes in DLCO over 12 months of therapy.

Ultrahigh tribocorrosion resistance of metals enabled by nano-layering

Wenbo Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that nanostructured metallic multilayers (NMMs) exhibit ultrahigh tribocorrosion resistance due to abundant interfaces and nanoscale chemical modulation. The experimental and computational study provides guidance for future material selection and design of multilayered and multi-phase metals for use under extreme environment. Through nanolayering, the surface work function of Al was increased while Cl adatoms adsorb less strongly than that on pure Al, reducing surface reactivity and pitting susceptibility.
