The role of the solidification structure on orientation-dependent hardness in stainless steel 316L produced by laser powder bed fusion

Sravya Tekumalla et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigates the mechanical anisotropy of SS316L produced by laser powder bed fusion. The results suggest that both grain orientation and solidification structure play important roles in the mechanical properties of the alloy, with cell spacing along the slip direction identified as a key factor affecting hardness anisotropy.

Dissimilar laser welding of a CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy to 316 stainless steel

J. P. Oliveira et al.

Summary: In this study, laser welding of rolled CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy to 316 stainless steel was conducted, resulting in defect-free joints. The microstructure of the fusion zone was mainly composed of a single FCC phase with increased hardness. The welded joints exhibited good mechanical properties, with fracture occurring at the fusion zone due to the development of a non-favorable large grain size microstructure.

Influence of initial relative densities on the sintering behavior and mechanical behavior of 316 L stainless steel fabricated by binder jet 3D printing

Zhiping Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the sintering behavior of 316L stainless steel samples prepared by binder jet 3D printing through finite-element numerical simulations. It was found that an increase in initial relative density led to reduced shrinkage and higher sintering stress. The numerical simulations successfully predicted the shrinkage and final relative densities of the samples.

Improving the ductility in laser welded joints of CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy to 316 stainless steel

J. P. Oliveira et al.

Summary: This study investigates the improvement of joint performance between high entropy alloys and stainless steel by changing the base material condition. The microstructure evolution and mechanical performance of the welded joint are evaluated, and the composition changes across the fusion zone are considered to predict the microstructure evolution. The results provide insights into the mechanism for improving joint performance.

Binder jet 3D printing?Process parameters, materials, properties, modeling, and challenges*

Amir Mostafaei et al.

Summary: Binder jet 3D printing, as a non-beam-based additive manufacturing method, shows great promise in rapid production of complex structures, but faces challenges in optimizing printing and post-processing methods. Understanding the physical processes during 3D printing and the science of densification post-sintering is crucial for enhancing part performance.
