China's pathways to peak carbon emissions: New insights from various industrial sectors

Kai Fang et al.

Summary: This study examines the potential peaking pathways of emissions in China's diverse industrial sectors by analyzing the emissions data from the past 23 years. The findings suggest that most sectors are expected to reach their peak emissions before 2040, with Agriculture, Building, Manufacturing, Others, and Transportation sectors likely to peak before 2030. These insights can be valuable for other countries in setting emission reduction targets.

Mechanical behaviors and microstructure characteristics of W-tempered and peak-aged 7075 alloy sheets under low frequency vibration-assisted tension

Yakun Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of low frequency vibration-assisted forming in high-strength aluminum alloys. The results demonstrate that low frequency vibration can induce a vibration-softening effect, and increasing the vibration amplitude enhances this effect as well as the stress-overshooting phenomenon. In addition, low frequency vibration influences the mechanical behaviors and microstructure evolution of the materials, including improving the ductility and changing the hardness, as well as increasing the low-angle grain boundaries and dislocation density.

Stress-state-dependent deformation and fracture behaviors in a cold-rolled 7Mn steel

Xing Wei et al.

Summary: The study conducted tensile tests on a recently developed 7Mn steel to investigate the effects of stress state on deformation and fracture characteristics, particularly in relation to retained austenite stability and transformation kinetics. Results revealed significant differences in the transformation kinetics of austenite to martensite under different stress states, with fracture strain being sensitive to stress state. Through digital image correlation and microstructural observations, characteristics of the austenite-to-martensite transformation under various stress states were identified.

Characterization and prediction of fracture in 6000-and 7000-series aluminum alloy sheet under various stress states

Taamjeed Rahmaan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the stress state dependent fracture of high strength aluminum sheet alloys and proposes a generalized Drucker-Prager model to describe the fracture locus. The calibrated fracture loci using the GDP model exhibit good agreement with the measured data, and the model allows for fracture asymmetry in uniaxial and biaxial tension, which is not captured using the Hosford-Coulomb model.

Summary: The study investigated experimental methods to characterize strain hardening behaviors up to large deformation under different stress states for an aluminum alloy sheet, revealing the effectiveness of the inverse engineering approach in characterizing stress-strain curves up to large plastic deformation. The results also highlight the need to develop advanced yield functions to model yielding and hardening behaviors under complex stress states.

Effect of non-associated flow rule on fracture prediction of metal sheets using a novel anisotropic ductile fracture criterion

Hung Quach et al.

Summary: The ductile fracture behavior of anisotropic materials was studied using the uncoupled ductile fracture criterion for aluminum alloys 6016-AC200. The model considers void nucleation, growth, and evolution of void coalescence, with anisotropic yield function and non-associated flow rule applied for accuracy. Experimental tests and simulations confirmed the efficacy of the proposed fracture criterion for predicting onset of ductile fracture in sheet metal forming.

Effects of constituent particle content on ductile fracture in isotropic and anisotropic 6000-series aluminium alloys

Summary: The study found that extrusion significantly improves the ductility of aluminum alloys, while a high volume fraction of large-sized constituent particles has a detrimental effect on ductility. However, the negative impact of increased particle volume fraction on ductility is reduced after extrusion.

On crystallographic aspects of heterogeneous plastic flow during ductile tearing: 3D measurements and crystal plasticity simulations for AA7075-T651

Thilo F. Morgeneyer et al.

Summary: Crystallographic aspects of heterogeneous plastic flow during ductile tearing are assessed experimentally by combining in situ synchrotron laminography imaging with numerical simulations using the crystal plasticity finite element method. The study reveals the early onset of slant strained bands which eventually lead to the formation of slant cracks. The simulation results show similar trends to the experimental observations, indicating the stability of the slant strained bands over the loading history.
