Ferromagnetic Resonance Modes in the Exchange-Dominated Limit in Cylinders of Finite Length

Jinho Lim et al.

Summary: This study focuses on analyzing the magnetic mode structure of axially magnetized finite-length nanoscopic cylinders, along with simulations of mode frequencies of the ferrimagnet yttrium iron garnet. Unique localized cap modes trapped by the inhomogeneous dipole field are identified, and semiquantitative explanations for some modes are provided using a one-dimensional Schrodinger equation. The careful discussion on the assignment of azimuthal-mode number and determination of frequency splitting for nearly degenerate modes are also highlighted.

Pi pulses in a ferromagnet: Simulations for yttrium iron garnet

Jinho Lim et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that near-perfect reversal of magnetization direction can be achieved in a ferromagnet by applying a suitable r.f. pulse, but is only effective for small samples and when the angular dependence of the precession frequency is continuously matched. However, this ability is lost in larger samples due to the presence of additional internal degrees of freedom.
