Enhanced magnetic softness of surface-crystallized Fe-Si-B-Nb-Mo-Cu amorphous alloys via competitive growth of surface pre-crystals/clusters

Huiyun Xiao et al.

Summary: The surface crystallization of Fe-based amorphous alloys, specifically Fe76Si13B8Nb2xMoxCu1, does not significantly affect the magnetic properties after proper heat treatment, forming a nanocrystalline structure similar to that of fully amorphous samples. This is achieved through the competitive growth of ultrafine nano-grains near the surface and internal grain refinement caused by refractory elements, ultimately leading to regular magnetic domains and good magnetic softness. This research provides guidance for mitigating the deteriorating effects of surface crystallization on magnetic properties, expanding the industrial applications of Fe-based amorphous alloys.

Design of Fe-based nanocrystalline alloys with superior magnetization and manufacturability

Hu Li et al.

Summary: A revolutionary nanostructure design concept was proposed in this study to improve the magnetic properties of Fe-based alloys by preforming dense nuclei and refining nano-structure via transient metalloid-rich interfaces. A novel alloy composition with superior magnetic properties was developed using only 4.6 wt.% light metalloids, showing great potential as a substitute for commercial bulk Si-steels in soft-magnetic applications.
