A TD-DFT molecular screening for fluorescence probe based on excited-state intramolecular proton transfer of 2′-hydroxychalcone derivatives

Warinthon Chansen et al.

Summary: A systematic screening of fluorescence probes based on excited-state intramolecular proton transfer of 2' hydroxychalcone derivatives was conducted using theoretical calculations, revealing that replacing the hydrogen atom on the amine group with a tosyl group can strengthen the intramolecular hydrogen bond, reduce the proton transfer barrier, and facilitate the ESIPT process.

Tunable keto emission of 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole derivatives with π-expansion, substitution and additional proton transfer site for excited-state proton transfer-based fluorescent probes: Theoretical insights

Komsun Chaihan et al.

Summary: Theoretical investigation on electronic properties and ESIPT processes of HBT and its derivatives with different chemical structures reveals red-shifts in enol absorption peaks and shifts in keto emission peaks depending on chemical structures. Among the designed derivatives, a HBT with double PT units connected along the nodal plane shows the best fluorescence properties with the largest Stokes shift, emitting at 1159 nm in the NIR region. Additional PT units combined with pi-expansion along the nodal plane can achieve keto emission in the NIR region.

Computational Investigation on ESIPT-driven Luminescence of Imidazo [1,2-a]pyridine Derivatives Regulated by Inter/Intramolecular Hydrogen bonding

Yasuhiro Shigemitsu et al.

Summary: The luminescent properties of three newly synthesized imidazopyridine derivatives with intramolecular/intramolecular hydrogen bonds were computationally investigated, revealing that the stability of the quasi pi-conjugated rings is regulated by a delicate balance between intramolecular steric hindrance and intra/intermolecular hydrogen bond strength. Excited state dynamics were explored through surface hopping trajectory calculations, reproducing the ESIPT process in the first excited singlet state.

Summary: This review summarizes recent progress in the design and application of novel organic sensors with emission in the near-infrared region. By coupling different functional groups with excited-state intramolecular proton transfer segments, new probes with attractive optical properties have been developed for bioimaging and environmental science applications. The potential applications of these probes as imaging reagents for intracellular membranes, mitochondria, lysosomes, and biomolecules are illustrated.

Insights into the Excited-State Processes in 1-Hydroxy-2-acetonaphthone at ADC(2) and CASSCF Levels

Ibanrishisha Mawa et al.

Summary: The study investigates the excited-state processes in HAN through electronic structure calculations and dynamics simulations, revealing a barrierless proton transfer process in the S-1 state leading to a stable keto form. Adiabatic dynamics simulations confirm the ultrafast process with an average proton transfer time of 43 fs, while the deactivation process to the ground state occurs beyond 600 fs. Nonradiative relaxation from the enol Franck-Condon region was found to be improbable due to a high energy barrier along the torsional coordinate at both the ADC(2) and CASPT2 levels of theory.

An ESIPT-based colorimetric and fluorescent probe with large Stokes shift for the sensitive detection of hypochlorous acid and its bioimaging in cells

Haixian Ren et al.

Summary: Hypochlorous acid, with low physiological concentration, is crucial in killing pathogens and has anti-inflammatory properties in the human immune system. Sensitively detecting tiny concentration changes of HOCl is necessary for understanding inflammation-associated diseases and cancer. The probe JBD effectively detects endogenous hypochlorous acid and provides insights into its role in oxidative stress and immune responses.
