Optical manifestation of magnetic polarons bound to excitons and resident holes in a (Cd,Mn)Te quantum well

N. Kozyrev et al.

Summary: Photoluminescence and multiple Mn2+ spin-flip Raman scattering were studied in a (Cd, Mn)Te/(Cd, Mg)Te quantum well at T = 1.5 K under resonance continuous-wave photoexcitation. It was observed that the magnetic polaron shift of both exciton and trion photoluminescence increased with the application of a magnetic field up to 6 T, with the mechanism attributed to adiabatic energy transfer and interaction with Mn2+ ions. The efficiency of multiple Mn2+ spin-flip Raman scattering was found to be highest in the energy range corresponding to localized exciton states, suggesting a possible intermediate state in the process.
