Experimental Demonstration of 55-m/2-Gbps Underwater Wireless Optical Communication Using SiPM Diversity Reception and Nonlinear Decision-Feedback Equalizer

Xiaojian Hong et al.

Summary: In this paper, a 55m/2 Gbps underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) system is proposed and experimentally demonstrated using silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) diversity reception and nonlinear decision-feedback equalizer (NDFE). The system mitigates the dead-time induced nonlinear distortion of SiPM-based UWOC and achieves significant performance improvement under different turbidity waters.

128 GSa/s SiGe DAC Implementation Enabling 1.52 Tb/s Single Carrier Transmission

Fred Buchali et al.

Summary: A new 128 GSa/s SiGe DAC with 8-bit resolution and 24 GHz bandwidth was developed and tested in coherent optical transmission. With constellation shaped modulation and polarization multiplexing, net bit rates of up to 1.55 Tb/s were achieved for direct transmission and 1.52 Tb/s for a typical DCI distance of 80 km.

Compensating Dynamic Nonlinearities in LED Photon Emission to Enhance Optical Wireless Communication

Shokoufeh Mardanikorani et al.

Summary: This study translates non-linear differential equations of LEDs into a discrete-time model with delay taps and non-linear coefficients, proposing a simplified compensation circuit for non-linear dynamic LED distortion. The non-linear equalizer based on the LED model effectively widens the eye diagram, reduces error rates, and allows for larger constellations in communication systems. Parameter estimation can lead the equalizer to converge to appropriate compensation settings in the MMSE sense, showing the capability to increase bit rates and improve performance on noisy channels.
