Synergistic impacts of composite formation and doping techniques to boost the photocatalytic aptitude of the BiFeO3 nanostructure

Summary: This study demonstrated the synthesis of gadolinium-doped bismuth ferrite nanoparticles and their incorporation into reduced graphene oxide to form a nanocomposite. The nanocomposite exhibited superior photocatalytic activity compared to pure bismuth ferrite and gadolinium-doped bismuth ferrite, with enhanced transient photocurrent response. The improved photocatalytic properties were attributed to the synergistic effect of gadolinium doping and reduced graphene oxide inclusion.

Integration of plasmonic effect and S-scheme heterojunction into gold decorated carbon nitride/cuprous oxide catalyst for photocatalysis

Summary: A plasmonic step-scheme heterojunction Au/g-C3N4/Cu2O photocatalyst with satisfactory stability and perfect photocatalytic performance was fabricated for pollutant degradation and hydrogen evolution. The 4-Au/g-C3N4/Cu2O catalyst exhibited the highest catalytic performance and removal efficiency for oxytetracycline hydrochloride (OTH), as well as the optimal hydrogen generation rate, attributed to efficient interfacial charge separation, high light absorption capacity induced by localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of Au nanoparticles, and the formation of a Step-scheme heterojunction structure.

The GO-assisted dual Z-scheme mechanism greatly accelerates the separation efficiency of e(-)-h(+), leading to the production of h(+) and O-center dot(2)- as main radicals in the photocatalytic system. This photocatalyst could be promising for energy and environment related applications.
