Zwitterionic Graphene Quantum Dots to Stabilize Pickering Emulsions for Controlled-Release Applications

Rong Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, amphiphilic graphene quantum dots with zwitterionic features (ZGQDs) were developed, which could stabilize the oil/water interface and achieve switchable molecular diffusion by adjusting pH values. The results demonstrate the great potential of these ZGQDs in controlled molecular diffusion applications based on nanoparticles.

Support effects of Cs/Al2O3 catalyzed aldol condensation of methyl acetate with formaldehyde

Hongqin Ma et al.

Summary: The study explores the support effects of cesium catalysts on the vapor-phase aldol condensation of MeOAc with HCHO using Al2O3 with different morphologies and crystal phases. The research shows that a balance between acidic and basic sites is crucial for the production of MA in this reaction.

PhotoATRP-Induced Self-Assembly (PhotoATR-PISA) Enables Simplified Synthesis of Responsive Polymer Nanoparticles in One-Pot

Ali Shahrokhinia et al.

Summary: Photo-controlled atom transfer radical polymerization (PhotoATRP) was used to achieve polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) mediated by UV light for the first time, resulting in core-cross-linked nanoparticles (NPs). By sequentially extending PGMA chains and incorporating CBMA for core cross-linking, multifunctional copolymer NPs were obtained with temporal control through UV light switching. Additionally, the core cross-linking with disulfide bonds in CBMA allowed for stimulus-triggered dissociation of nanoparticles at acidic pH.

Construction of Highly Ordered Glyco-Inside Nano-Assemblies through RAFT Dispersion Polymerization of Galactose-Decorated Monomer

Liang Qiu et al.

Summary: This study presents an efficient method for synthesizing glyco-inside nano-assemblies using RAFT polymerization technology, which allows for the fabrication of highly ordered nano-assemblies by adjusting the length of hydrophobic glycoblock and polymerization solids content. A specific morphology of complex vesicles was captured during the PISA process, with the formation mechanism explained by the morphology of its precursor and intermediate.

Switching between Thermal Initiation and Photoinitiation Redirects RAFT-Mediated Polymerization-Induced Self-Assembly

Xuhui Luo et al.

Summary: RAFT-mediated polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) is a method of growing interest for the preparation of well-defined block copolymer nano-objects. By switching between thermal initiation and photoinitiation, the polymerization kinetics and self-assembled structures of PISA can be redirected. The difference in polymerization kinetics between thermally initiated PISA and photo-PISA is the main reason for the morphological difference observed in the block copolymer nano-objects. The combination of thermal initiation and photoinitiation allows for further control over the morphologies of the nano-objects.

Polymerization-Induced Self-Assembly Driven by the Synergistic Effects of Aromatic and Solvophobic Interactions

Xiao-Fei Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates PISA driven by the synergistic effects of solvophobic and aromatic interactions to fabricate polymeric vesicles and tubes with adjustable aspect ratios. Controlling vesicular size in the range of sub-100 nm to micrometer in PISA is realized by copolymerization of different comonomers in various proportions to adjust intermolecular interactions. Moreover, polymeric tubes with adjustable aspect ratios are produced by applying the cooperativity of aromatic and solvophobic interactions.

Small-Angle X-Ray Scattering Studies of Block Copolymer Nano-Objects: Formation of Ordered Phases in Concentrated Solution During Polymerization-Induced Self-Assembly

Matthew J. Rymaruk et al.

Summary: Polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) is used to prepare lyotropic phases with diblock copolymer nano-objects in non-polar media. Through NMR and X-ray scattering studies, the copolymer compositions and phase transitions during benzyl methacrylate polymerization are revealed. The hexagonal cylinder phase undergoes an order-disorder transition upon heating to 150 degrees C, forming a pure hexagonally close-packed (HCP) phase upon cooling to 20 degrees C.

Non-thermally initiated RAFT polymerization-induced self-assembly

Nankai An et al.

Summary: RAFT PISA enables efficient synthesis of polymeric nanoparticles, but thermal initiation restricts the incorporation of temperature-sensitive biomolecules. Recent developments in non-thermal initiation techniques have addressed this issue, offering new possibilities for bio-related applications.
