Recent advances in carbon nanomaterials-based electrochemical sensors for food azo dyes detection

Hassan Karimi-Maleh et al.

Summary: Azo dyes are widely used food colorants for their stability and affordability. However, they can have harmful impacts on living organs, necessitating the control of their content in food. Electro-analytical techniques have been favored for detecting azo dyes due to their sensitivity, selectivity, reproducibility, miniaturization, green nature, low cost, short sample preparation and detection time, and electrode modification capabilities. Carbon-based nanomaterials, such as carbon nanotubes (CNT) and graphene (Gr), have shown satisfactory results in the fabrication of electrochemical sensing systems for detecting the levels of azo dyes in various specimens.

Effect of the Ni3TeO6 phase in a Ni2Te3O8/expanded graphite composite on the electrochemical monitoring of metribuzin residue in soil and water samples

Annamalai Yamuna et al.

Summary: With the growing demand for food and the challenges posed by climate change, the development of effective pest control agents has become crucial for increasing crop yields. However, the use of pesticides has detrimental effects on human health and the environment. This study presents a novel electrochemical sensor electrode that demonstrates high selectivity and sensitivity for detecting the herbicide Metribuzin, which is commonly used to control weeds. The sensor electrode, consisting of a Ni3TeO6-phase-integrated Ni2Te3O8/expanded graphite (NTO-eGR) composite, exhibits excellent analytical performance and can accurately detect MTBZ even in the presence of interfering species in water and soil samples. The practical applicability of the NTO-eGR electrode is demonstrated by its good reproducibility and high recovery rates in the determination of MTBZ in soil and water samples. Overall, this research highlights the importance of developing efficient and selective detection methods for agricultural chemicals to minimize their impact on both human health and the environment.
