Integration of a nitrification bioreactor and an anoxic biotrickling filter for simultaneous ammonium-rich water treatment and biogas desulfurization

Patricio Cano et al.

Summary: A preliminary assessment was conducted on integrating an anoxic biotrickling filter and a nitrification bioreactor for simultaneous treatment of ammonium-rich water and H2S in biogas. Results showed that a mixture of biogenic NO3 and NO2 could enhance H2S elimination capacity, and control of feed flow could maintain outlet H2S concentration effectively.

Impact of an anoxic desulfurization process on methane content of the purified biogas

Guillermo I. Quijano et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that anoxic desulfurization process can impact the CH4 and CO2 content of purified biogas. The reduction in CO2 concentration and increase in CH4 concentration in the purified biogas were found to be proportional, with CO2 absorption playing a role in this process. Additionally, the presence of methane-oxidizing bacteria suggests that methane oxidation occurred in the desulfurization system.

H2S oxidation coupled to nitrate reduction in a two-stage bioreactor: Targeting H2S-rich biogas desulfurization

Mauricio Flores-Cortes et al.

Summary: The two-stage bioreactor achieved high H2S removal efficiency under anoxic denitrifying conditions for synthetic biogas. Nitrogen mass balance showed that only a small amount of nitrogen was directed to biomass growth, with the rest used for denitrification. Significant changes in bacterial community composition did not affect desulfurization efficiency in continuous operation.

Volatile Siloxanes Emissions: Impact and Sustainable Abatement Perspectives

Celia Pascual et al.

Summary: The removal of volatile siloxanes from gas emissions is crucial due to their persistent detrimental impacts on the economy, society, and environment. While physicochemical technologies are currently the only commercially available abatement methods, biobased technologies are emerging as a more cost-effective and sustainable alternative for promoting the removal of volatile siloxanes.
