Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles as novel nano-fertilizer for production of rosemary plants

Ahmed A. A. Elsayed et al.

Summary: Nano-fertilizers, produced using nanotechnology, show potential to replace conventional fertilizers by rapidly absorbing and delivering nutrients in plants. In this study, hydroxyapatite nanoparticles were developed as a phosphorus nano-fertilizer and were found to enhance the growth and essential oil production of rosemary plants. The nano-fertilizer also improved growth characteristics such as stem diameter and fiber thickness. This research opens up new possibilities for using nanomaterials as an alternative technology to traditional fertilizers in medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation.

The hydrothermal alkaline alteration of potassium feldspar: A nanometer-scale investigation of the orthoclase interface

Roland Hellmann et al.

Summary: Potassium feldspars are common minerals in the Earth's crust, but research on their dissolution behavior in alkaline conditions has been limited. This study used advanced analytical techniques to investigate the dissolution of orthoclase in a Ca(OH)(2)-H2O solution at high temperatures, revealing a sharp chemical reaction front and the formation of an amorphous surface alteration layer. The results suggest a coupled interfacial dissolution-reprecipitation mechanism controls the alteration of feldspars in alkaline solutions.
