Asbestos containing materials in schools of Rome and surrounding area (Italy)

Antonella Campopiano et al.

Summary: This study investigated the presence of asbestos in schools in Rome and analyzed the risks posed to student health. The results showed that around 16% of schools had asbestos-containing materials, most of which were not accessible to students. The study highlighted the importance of implementing measures to reduce asbestos hazards.

Risk assessment of asbestos containing materials in a deteriorated dwelling area using four different methods

Yuan-Long Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the status and distribution of asbestos-containing materials in a deteriorated residential area in Korea, and assessed the risk posed by the identified ACMs using four international methods. The results highlighted significant differences between assessment results, which were found to be influenced by the specific characteristics of buildings in the study area. The findings suggest that ACM risk assessments should be tailored to specific regions to improve ACM management and promote overall health for workers and occupants.

A Systematic Study of the Cryogenic Milling of Chrysotile Asbestos

Valentina Scognamiglio et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the effect of cryogenic milling on the physical-chemical properties of commercial Russian chrysotile to produce precise size fractions with invariant properties compared to the pristine fibers. Results indicate that fiber length can be controlled by milling time under cryogenic conditions without inducing structural defects or amorphization. Short fibers (95% L < 5 μm) can be obtained by cryogenic milling for 40 min, while 10 min is enough to yield long chrysotile fibers (90% L > 5 μm).
