Nonstoichiometric effect on dielectric and large-signal electromechanical properties of environmentally friendly BNT-6BT ferroelectric ceramics

Yule Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of nonstoichiometry on the dielectric and large-signal electromechanical properties of (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3 (BNT)-based ferroelectrics. By manufacturing nonstoichiometric BNTx-6BT ceramics with varying Bi/Na ratios, the researchers discovered changes in the phase structures and an ultrahigh electrostrain in the x = 0.02 composition. The nonstoichiometric compositions also exhibited better temperature stability compared to the stoichiometric counterparts.

The experiment verifies the relationship between the concrete conductance measured by PZT and PEC sensors and the load at the applicable frequency. The results indicate that both sensors can be used to monitor the stress and strain, while the PEC sensor has a wider applicable frequency range, lower conductance spectrum fluctuation, and shorter analysis time.

Summary: The nanomechanical properties of polycrystalline hard and soft lead zirconate titanate (PZT) are measured on samples with different ferroelectric domain configurations, which are controlled by selective annealing below and above the curie temperature. The results show that the degree of randomization of ferroelectric domains increases with higher annealing temperature, leading to higher hardness in the annealed samples above the curie temperature. This study provides insights into designing piezoelectric materials with a good combination of mechanical and piezoelectric properties.
