Study on Basic Properties of Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer Flooding Water and Influence of Oil-Displacing Agent on Oil-Water Settlement

Lu Ren et al.

Summary: The study found that the oil droplets in ASP flooding produced water show the most significant changes in size when the pH is between 10.5 and 11.75. The reduction in oil droplet size is influenced by the increase in pH after the addition of alkali.

Early corrosion behavior of X80 pipeline steel in a simulated soil solution containing Desulfovibrio desulfuricans

Yuxing Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the corrosion behavior of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) on steel without organic carbon source in simulated soil solution, finding that SRB can survive for a period without organic carbon but affects corrosion rates. It was also observed that the presence of dissolved oxygen (DO) influences the corrosion process.

Corrosion Behavior of X70 Pipeline Steel in 3.5% Nacl Solution under the Synergistic Action of Cathodic Protection and Sulfate-reducing Bacteria

Lin Teng et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the growth cycle of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and the cathodic potential have significant impacts on the cathodic protection efficiency of X70 pipeline steel in saltwater solution. The synergistic interaction between cathodic protection and SRB plays a key role in mitigating steel corrosion.

Effect of sulfate reducing bacteria and stress on corrosion behavior of X100 steel in sea mud environment

Ming Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that stress accelerates local dissolution of the metal surface and formation of pits, while the poisoning effect of SRB increases the likelihood of hydrogen embrittlement in X100 steel in a simulated sea mud environment. The corrosion mechanism of X100 steel in this environment is affected by stress and SRB, with the potential for hydrogen embrittlement.

Under-deposit corrosion of tubing served for injection and production wells of CO2 flooding

Qiuyu Wang et al.

Summary: Through various characterization methods, this study found that the corrosion failure of tubing steel used for CO2 flooding in injection and production wells was mainly caused by the joint action of SRB, CO2, and Cl-. The corrosion product film on the tubing steel exhibited a bilayer structure with FeS and FeCO3 in the outer layer caused by SRB corrosion and CO2 corrosion, and iron oxide and oxyhydroxide in the inner layer caused by Cl- enrichment and CO2 corrosion. Under-deposit corrosion was a result of the synergistic effect of SRB and CO2, while localized corrosion was accelerated by Cl- enrichment.

Metal corrosion induced by microbial activity - Mechanism and control options

S. Noyel Victoria et al.

Summary: Microbe-influenced material damage is a complex process involving different types of microbes and their physiological activities, making microbial corrosion difficult to understand. The formation of biofilms by bacterial action can either inhibit or promote biocorrosion of metals depending on local environmental conditions. Small changes in living conditions can alter microbial behavior from non-corrosive to aggressively corroding, emphasizing the importance of environmental factors in biocorrosion.
