Morphology controlled synthesis of α-Fe2O3-x with benzimidazole-modified Fe-MOFs for enhanced photo-Fenton-like catalysis

Wenkai Xu et al.

Summary: Surface structure engineering plays a crucial role in enhancing the photo-Fenton-like catalytic performance of alpha-Fe2O3-based photocatalysts. The rod-like alpha-Fe2O3-x material exhibited the highest activity for methylene blue degradation, attributed to its large surface area, high Fe2+ and oxygen vacancies concentrations. Density functional theory calculations confirmed that both Fe2+ ions and oxygen vacancies facilitate the dissociation of H2O2 to produce hydroxyl radicals for the degradation of organic dyes.
