Manipulating matter by strong coupling to vacuum fields

Francisco J. Garcia-Vidal et al.

Summary: In the past decade, there has been a surge of interest in using hybrid light-matter states to control the properties of matter and chemical reactivity. Experimental and theoretical studies have shown that these hybrid states can enhance properties like transport, magnetism, and superconductivity, as well as modify (bio)chemical reactivity. This multidisciplinary field has great potential for further exploration.

Light-induced symmetry breaking for enhancing second-harmonic generation from an ultrathin plasmonic nanocavity

Guang-Can Li et al.

Summary: In nanoplasmonic systems, symmetry can often suppress the second harmonic generation (SHG) despite the highly enhanced fields. Here, the authors demonstrate light-induced symmetry breaking that enables strong SHG enhancement from symmetric nanophotonic systems with certain properties.

Nanobridged rhombic antennas supporting both dipolar and high-order plasmonic modes with spatially superimposed hotspots in the mid- infrared

En-Ming You et al.

Summary: This study presents a multiscale nanobridged rhombic antenna (NBRA) supporting two dominant resonances in the mid-infrared. The high-order modes enabled by nanobridges and nanogaps contribute to enhanced local field and sensitivity for multiband detection, demonstrating potential for applications such as multiband SEIRAs, IR detectors, and beam-shaping of quantum cascade lasers in the future.
