The SGLT2 inhibitor canagliflozin in heart failure: the CHIEF-HF remote, patient-centered randomized trial

John A. Spertus et al.

Summary: Large traditional clinical trials have shown that sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors can improve symptoms in heart failure patients. In a new trial conducted remotely (CHIEF-HF trial), canagliflozin was found to significantly improve symptoms in heart failure patients, regardless of ejection fraction or diabetes status.

Fixed-dose combination of pertuzumab and trastuzumab for subcutaneous injection plus chemotherapy in HER2-positive early breast cancer (FeDeriCa): a randomised, open-label, multicentre, non-inferiority, phase 3 study

Antoinette R. Tan et al.

Summary: The fixed-dose combination of pertuzumab and trastuzumab for subcutaneous injection has been shown to be non-inferior to intravenous administration in terms of efficacy, leading to FDA approval. Safety profile is similar to other studies involving pertuzumab, trastuzumab, and chemotherapy. Ongoing follow-up is focused on long-term outcomes and safety.

Summary: This study describes a decentralized, patient-centered randomized clinical trial using mobile technologies to test the efficacy of canagliflozin for improving heart failure symptoms. The primary outcome is the change in the total symptom score of the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire over 12 weeks, with secondary outcomes including daily step count and other scales from the questionnaire.

Delivering clinical trials at home: protocol, design and implementation of a direct-to-family paediatric lupus trial

Rachel L. Randell et al.

Summary: Direct-to-family clinical trials efficiently provide data while reducing participant burden, but also pose unique challenges. Lessons learned from the design and implementation of this trial will inform future trials for rheumatic disease patients, and the remote data collected in this trial will provide critical information for lupus research and pediatric-specific dosing of hydroxychloroquine.
