Goals of care communication and higher-value care for patients with advanced-stage cancer: A systematic review of the evidence

Larry D. Cripe et al.

Summary: This article presents a systematic review on the impact of goals-of-care communication (GOCC) on higher-value care. The findings suggest that there is currently no consensus on what GOCC entails, and limited evidence indicates that GOCC may increase the value of end-of-life care. Future studies should focus on engaging patients in conversations about their personal goals and integrating those goals into care planning.
