Acute Effects of an Inorganic Phosphorus Additive on Mineral Metabolism and Cardiometabolic Risk Factors in Healthy Subjects

Christin Volk et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the acute effect of excessive dietary phosphorus on postprandial Pi and FGF23 levels and the response to food. The results showed that oral phosphorus increased plasma Pi levels, decreased Pi reabsorption, increased urinary Pi and parathyroid hormone release, but did not affect FGF23 levels.

Simultaneous glomerular filtration rate determination using inulin, iohexol, and 99mTc-DTPA demonstrates the need for customized measurement protocols

Christine A. White et al.

Summary: This study compared plasma iohexol and Tc-99m-DTPA GFR with varying sampling strategies to urinary inulin GFR and identified protocols with the greatest accuracy based on clinical characteristics. Delayed sampling in plasma iohexol protocols showed highest accuracy in low GFRs, while early sampling showed highest accuracy in high GFRs. Customization of GFR protocols based on anticipated GFR levels is crucial for accuracy.

Age and sex effects on FGF23-mediated response to mild phosphate challenge

Samantha P. Tippen et al.

Summary: The study showed that aging female mice upregulated FGF23 to maintain blood phosphorus during a mild phosphate challenge, while male mice did not show the same response. Despite higher kidney KL mRNA levels in male mice with age, both sexes had similar levels of phosphate, calcium, and creatinine.

Variability of Urinary Creatinine in Healthy Individuals

Gerd Sallsten et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the variability of creatinine excretion in 24-hour and spot urine samples, finding that creatinine excretion rate is positively correlated with urinary flow rate. The creatinine concentration varies at different time points, and the ICC for urinary creatinine depends on the time of day of sampling. Frozen samples from this variability biobank are open for researchers examining normal variability of their favorite biomarker(s).
